Although Anderson Cooper is mainly known as an anchor who employs serious journalism and his calm presence on TV, the last week he has been able to display to his fans much of his personal side. The journey through family fun and natural wonder that Anderson Cooper shared with his fans has been the subject of discussion for many.
On April 18, 2025, Cooper with Andy Cohen, his lifelong friend, participated in a trip to Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida. However, just two days after that, Cooper was seen on 60 Minutes from the top of a mountain in Mexico, doing a report on the monarch butterfly migration, one of the most beautiful and enigmatic events of nature.
Now, let’s take a look at the reasons behind the massive attention that each of the situations got.
An Extraordinary Spring Break
To depict the relationship between Anderson Cooper and the Bravo star Andy Cohen, one can go no further than stating the fact that the two stars have been friends for over 20 years now. During this spring, the duo arranged a complete fun-filled family vacation in Orlando, Florida.
Cohen showed off plenty of photos on his Instagram account, which also included a video of his daughter Lucy who was hugging Daisy Duck and a picture of himself and Cooper on the TRON Lightcycle/Run ride at Magic Kingdom. The enthusiasm for the posts quickly snowballed.
Cooper, in fact, took his children, Wyatt, 4, and Sebastian, 3, that he co-parents with ex-partner Benjamin Maisani. Furthermore, Cohen’s children — Benjamin, 6, and Lucy, who turns 3 this month — were also part of the picnic.
For those people who are used to see Cooper on the screen wearing a suit on CNN, this part of a change showed them a man who they rarely see on the camera but still there out of it.
[“I guess when it’s] Not that], Cohen, who wrote that in one of the captions and tagged Cooper in several of the posts, said those words, the only thing to have in mind is “Family time means everything.”
They were carrying the strollers, watching fireworks, and eating cotton candy with their kids in the park.
A Breath-Taking 60 Minutes Project
Two days later, the journalists were at the next task after the Disney World trip. On April 20, 2025, the same person was telling the audience something completely different. A 60 Minutes outline displaying the monarch butterfly migration became a reality. This is the phenomenon that even now scientists are in the dark about.
The taping of the segment lasted for three years. Cooper and his team went down to a far-flung mountain forest in Mexico, to witness millions of monarch butterflies heading towards the U.S.A. and Canada.
The butterflies are so new to the migration that they must have come from the last generation. The generation that is at the beginning of the trip is not the one that finishes it, and still, the route is the same year after year.
During the show, Cooper referred to it as “the most beautiful story we’ve ever told on 60 Minutes” and said that butterflies seemed “falling leaves in a golden storm.”
The episode went viral with the audience getting both a significant ecological lesson and some enthralling views.
Sharing His Life Between Family and Career
He is also the man behind the late-night TV show Anderson Cooper 360° on CNN, which offers an insightful take on the world’s latest events and global issues. Nevertheless, along with that and 60 Minutes, fatherhood is the main focus for him at the moment.
In one of his recent endeavors, Cooper was asked to outline the topics. When asked a question in the past, he quickly expressed the challenges and happiness experienced from co-parenting. He resides in a house with Maisani and their two sons, which, according to him, is what constitutes the perfect family of this age.
Fans were quick to shower him with an avalanche of appreciation for being the prince of his career with very little time left for his fatherly responsibilities.
“It’s mind-blowing to watch someone transition from a Disney dad to an investigative journalist within the same weekend,” one person on social media wrote as the person was watching the show.
Cooper’s Future Plans
While at this moment there are no big announcements coming from him, it’s still expected that he will keep up his work at CNN and CBS simultaneously. He’s also in the process of making new special reports for 60 Minutes that would mostly tackle global climate change and humanitarian stories.
It is the great blend of personal and professional that has always been a hit with the audience, and right now, the feeling seems to be more than before for the fans of the anchor.
