After fans had to wait for so long for the first two seasons of Severance, they have some good news. In a recent interview, series director and executive producer Ben Stiller confirmed that Season 3 won’t take nearly as long to arrive.
When he appeared on “New Heights” podcast by Travis and Jason Kelce, Stiller dealt with the worry growing about future postponements of the Apple TV+ hit. When a question was raised as to whether the next season would be again of three years, his answer to that was direct: No, the plan is not to. He stated, “The plan is to the opposite.” Moreover, he remarked, “We’ll soon be announcing what the plan is.”
Why Was Season 2 Delayed?
The wide gap between the first and the second parts of Severance was mainly influenced by the industry-wide strikes such as the strike called by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA. The work stoppage because of the strikes that lasted for almost a year has caused the biggest bottleneck for many scripted shows.
Moreover, Severance Season 2 was a quite demanding production, having around 186 days of shooting. “The editing process is a long one,” Stiller stated. “But the fans’ support was the thing that motivated us to come back.”
Despite the difficulties they had, Season 2 of Severance ended on a positive note with a dramatic finale that created a lot of questions unanswered.
Is Season 3 Official?
Surprisingly, Apple TV+ has yet to make a renewal announcement for Severance Season 3 official. Nonetheless, there has been some development in the background. Indeed, several sources disclose that the writers’ room is busy, and the scriptwriters are currently developing scripts.
This indicates that Apple has already begun preparing for the next installment, although they are not officially acknowledging it yet.
What to Expect in Season 3
Season 2 was finalized on the 20th of March 2025 with a finale full of emotional tension and great plot twists. Lumon Industries — the company shrouded in mystery which is the heart of the series — continue to keep dangerous secrets.
While the details remain unknown, fans can anticipate more:
- The severance procedure creation story
- The motives behind Lumon, the company’s power
- More of the personal lives of Helly, Mark, and Irving
Stiller suggested that the writers want to bring out the story in innovative yet not time-consuming ways. “We don’t want to keep people waiting for a long time. There is a balance we want to hit between the two,” he said. “We also need the time to get things done right”
Fan Reactions
The news of Season 3’s impending return being sooner than predicted has been gladly received by its fans. Social media was flooded with people expressing relief and happiness. Besides that, they also shared their predictions concerning the possible story developments.
Saying that they enjoyed the very abundant style of the show, referring to a mixture of mystery, corporate satire, and emotional drama, many have liked the show.
What About the Cast?
Thus far no one has been cast for Season 3. Yet all the main actors of the previous term such as Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, and Patricia Clarkson are anticipated to be back again.
Their portrayals have been the bedrock for the success of the show, most of them are thus bound to future seasons.
A lot of people have seen Last Summer as being one of Queer the Frickin’ Club’s fixed projects. Leave fans terrified of Adventure Time, as the writers of Notts Island have taken the animated sequel to another level. With the new actor of the Unkilled happening cast, could the show be on the way?
The project is still in the planning stages, and there is no confirmed date for the release of the same. The anticipation will be easier for the audience as they wait for updates.
