Chris Evert who is the tennis legend now, opens a book of her own life, which she considers to be one of the most meaningful chapters in her life. Some of the things are turning 70, surviving cancer twice, and embracing her role as a grandmother.
The 18-time Grand Slam champion is a person who is the role model of most of her hardcore supporters because of her strength and finesse on the court. Nonetheless, it is currently her journey away from the court that’s winning the challenge.
A Milestone Birthday With New Perspective
Last year on December 21, 2024, Evert turned 70. Some might feel terrible about the big milestone, but she sees it as a chance for introspection and a lot of thankfulness.
“I absolutely feel that I have had a full life,” Evert said in her most recent interview. “Frankly, now I just see life in a different light. Being here, being present—it means more than anything.”
So she was just happy about the experience she has had through the years as she was on top of the world and the next moment, an unfavorable verdict for cancer treatment kick-started a multimodal storytelling approach, one that became essentially Evert’s forte.
A Grandmother’s Joy After Cancer
Positively, the latest bright spot in her life was when she became a grandmother after bringing Hayden Mill into the world after seven months.
“This is a surprise I’ve never anticipated,” she said. “I couldn’t think of a better reward after cancer treatment than the new life of the baby that gave me a second chance at life.”
Evert added that baby Hayden was dropped off at the perfect time of life for her. She was getting over one of the most grief-stricken periods and was in the recovery process of her health, so the little one was to be the beacon of hope.
“I am going to be the cool grandma,” she chuckled as she talked. “I mean, really, I have had a very serious, intense life. Now I want to enjoy these times.”
From Tennis Icon to Mentor and Philanthropist
Even though she no longer enjoys the tennis court the way she used to, Chris Evert is not ready to quit the game she loves.
She is still giving it all serving as a respected TV commentator at Grand Slam events, and is very much involved with the Evert Tennis Academy that she co-established in Boca Raton, Florida.
The academy is a place where young tennis talent is trained and Evert is often there attending matches and advising students. Her dedication to nurturing the next generation is the same as it was for her backhand once.
Besides this, she`€™s been actively participating in cancer awareness programs, using her inspirational story to ask women to be regular with the checkups. “I keep telling my dear fans it was early detection that saved my life,” she says to her fans often.
Keeping Fans Charmed Online
Even though she is a retired tennis player, Evert has kept her public image warm and relatable. She usually shares on social media different events from her life, like being a grandmother, a tennis tutor or a public speaker.
One of these events happened recently when Andy Roddick’s light-hearted pranks at Palm Beach took her by surprise. This was followed by their joking, not too serious Twitter chat, thus proving that famous tennis personalities have time for fun.
Her kindness and quick wit keep drawing fans old or new. Apart from being a great champion, the fact that she is open about her personal struggles has made her a role model.
What Comes After Chris Evert?
About her future, she reckons that she`s taking life a bit slower, but not very much.
“I would like to be happy, I want to be with my family, I want to watch tennis. Maybe I will teach a few more kids. But most of all, I want to be,” Evert told the press.
Her narrative is a stirring account of how life—beyond success, and health obstacles—can turn into a long and happy journey illuminated with love, purpose, and new beginnings.
