The ‘Outstanding Achievement in Entertainment’ award at the 10th annual Las Cruces International Film Festival was presented to the Oscar-winning actress Helen Hunt, who was honored earlier this week. The festival was staged at the Allen Theatres Cineport 10 in New Mexico and took place through April 10. It gathered thousands of local guests and exhibited more than 100 movies from over 50 countries.
At the awards ceremony, Hunt participated in a Q&A session with the students at New Mexico State University where she shared her acting experience and career. The actress talked about the most remarkable moments from her many years in the industry, the high points of her being the role of As Good As It Gets for which she won the Oscar, and her multiple-awards-winning performance in Mad About You, including an Emmy and a Golden Glob.
Hunt’s Openness About Her Experiences
Besides her on-screen triumphs, there was something that came up in another news story regarding Helen’s personal life. She took a photo of herself with Jeffrey Nordling, an actor, outside Wrigley Field in Chicago, moments that became the talk of the day. The selfie of only casual interest to her with fans led to discussion on more than her “makeup-free” look and natural appearance, with fans praising the actress for her authenticity.
In the course of a baseball game, the two, who have been seeing each other since last year, were seen a couple of times. It was a sport they both shared a love for, and the event turned out to be a rare insight into Hunt’s otherwise private life of the actress.
An Unfulfilled ‘Twister’ Sequel
Besides her festival tribute, Helen Hunt has also revealed a film project that she has been working on but that has never come into being. The actress said she had offered the idea of thinking of a sequel to a 1996 movie Twister – an opportunity where she played the lead role together with the late Bill Paxton arising to her. Her thought was to rebuild the plot around a fresh, inclusive team of storm chasers mainly from an HBCU (Historically Black College or University).
According to Hunt, a section of giving the sequel the new direction was herself, sharing it with actor and writer Daveed Diggs. Notwithstanding her passion and vision, however, the pitch was refused by studios.
She told an interviewer of her exasperation with it when she revealed that the entertainment industry occasionally fights off the infusion of new life. “We had a great story, but it just wasn’t picked up,” she went on to say.
Staying Engaged and Keeping the Headlines
Notwithstanding the fact that the Twister sequel did not take off, Hunt is still participating in entertainment activities. Furthermore, she does not only that but she is also, at present, engaged in new roles, lending her support to indie cinema and making some public appearances that have relatable stars old and new, young audience.
She was recently awarded at the Las Cruces Film Festival. It is a prof that she is still an influential and inspiring figure in the film industry by staying in the backdrop and sending out positive vibes even beyond the screen, through being open, creating, and telling winning stories, she is always giving out her light to the world.
