Jack Black is having an amazing year and one of the most successful of his entire career. So far, as of April 2025, the actor and comedian has not only appeared on the big screen but also topped the music charts with a viral song, had a successful return after 20 years on the TV show “Saturday Night Live,” and now is preparing a giant horror-comedy release at the end of the year.
Minecraft Movie Breaks Records
More than anything else, on April 4 this month, people were talking about A Minecraft Movie when it was launched in theaters. Black, who is the main character that goes by the name of “Steve” and who is inspired by the iconic blocky video game, stars in the movie. The film’s success was instant and it surpassed $722 million worldwide in grosses.
However, the film’s strength extends to the music sphere as well where it is Black’s piece that is making headlines. He is the one who performs “Steve’s Lava Chicken,” a song that lasts only 34 seconds and, which after the film was released, went viral. The song made it to the UK Top 40 at No. 21, making it the shortest track ever to chart that high.
A Triumphant Return to Saturday Night Live
Only one day following the movie release, Black was back on the same stage on April 5 for Saturday Night Live. Black was the show’s host, fourth in number, and his appearance was for the first time since 2005. Describing his performance as one of the best acknowledgments ever, he walked in and had the audience roaring with a parody of Aerosmith’s “Back in the Saddle.”
Quite an explosive and wonderful affair the episode was, whatwith Elton John and Brandi Carlile being the show’s musical guests, thus making it one of the most high-profiles of the season.
New Anaconda Movie Coming This December
With a sort of quirky twist, Jack Black is getting involved in a horror movie. He will be playing the lead in the reboot of the film Anaconda, which is a cult classic. It is rumored that the release date will be on December 25, 2025. Making the film even more interesting is a supporting cast member, Paul Rudd, and a director, Tom Gormican.
The movie, which is a grotesque yet funny surreal mash-up, seeks not only to provide the viewer with some real scares but also to offset them with Jack Black’s inimitable humor. In a recent talk, Black expressed his thoughts on the film by saying, “It’s a lot funnier than the original — but also scarier in all the right ways.”
The D is Back in Force
Besides his movies, Black is returning back to music. His band Tenacious D, famous as a comedy-rock group, has just put out a remake of “Keep on Loving You” by REO Speedwagon. This song forms part of the charity album Good Music To Lift Los Angeles and is the band’s first official release since going on break.
Their return to the music scene is expected to be followed by a whole track list and maybe even a few live gigs later this year.
A Journey of a Versatile Artist
At the age of 55, Jack Black remains active as ever and nothing seems to slow him down. He is hopping from one genre to another, exploring various platforms, and at the same time, managing blockbuster movies with his music, getting on TV shows and making people laugh.
By being the voice of a pixelated character, hosting a live event, or acting as the lead in a snake film, Jack Black again and again demonstrates his position as one of the most improvising stars in Hollywood, the one who can surprise and entertain you the most.
