The John Wick franchise is becoming more and more including new projects like sequels, prequels, and anime. But, John Wick: Chapter 5 now is on the waitlist and it is not yet in pre-production. Not all fans of Keanu Reeves who were excited to see him again kicking butts get good news as the film may appear later than what has been expected.
No Filming for John Wick 5 in 2025
The director has made it clear that John Wick: Chapter 5 will not be shot in 2025. Apart from Lionsgate’s confirmation of yet another sequel, Stahelski has turned his attention elsewhere, having a number of projects such as the Highlander reboot and the Ballerina spin-off to work on. Also, Chad Stahelski has revealed that John Wick: Chapter 5 is not going to be shot in 2025.
It hasn’t been canceled but it is not being actively developed. This means it could be more than two or three years before fans get to see the continuation of John Wick’s story.
The Continental: A Look at John Wick’s Origins
Last September 2023, john wick enthusiasts witnessed an in-depth sight into his world when The Continental: From the World of John Wick was aired. It was a three-part miniseries which Peacock aired and in it people got to know the true origin of Winston Scott, the manager of The Continental Hotel in 1970s New York City.
The ratings were really mixed, as there were those who thought that there were very impressive fight scenes and thought that the film was very extensive, while others said that the film suffered from lack of the original John Wick films’ characteristic spirit. Thus, the film was a key addition to the story of the assassins’ world and the hotel as it details the significant past of the hotel.
Upcoming John Wick Spin-Offs and Projects
John Wick 5 may be delayed but that should not make Wix fans worry. Many more projects are being worked on:
- Ballerina (2025 Release) – This spin-off, the main character is a young assassin who decides to take revenge. Keanu Reeves and Ian McShane will only make a cameo appearance.
- Under the High Table (TV Series) – A new film about the world of assassins, Keanu Reeves, and Chad Stahelski, executive produced it.
- John Wick Anime Prequel – An animated show that is about John Wick’s early years and the “impossible task” left him the criminal underworld. There is a rumor that Keanu Reeves might be doing voice acting.
Why Is John Wick 5 Delayed?
The first and foremost reason that causes the delay of John Wick 5 is the overcrowded timetable of Chad Stahelski. The director does not want to be in a rush to jump in and continue the franchise.
Therefore, because the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 left fans with a question as to whether John Wick was still alive or the story was truly finished, the creators proposed that they should not rush into creating another sequel they believe the story should be compelling.
Will Keanu Reeves Return as John Wick?
Keanu Reeves has shown an undying love for the John Wick character; yet, he believes that the story of John Wick has to be a good reason to continue. While he is not definitely confirmed for John Wick 5, we will see him briefly in Ballerina.
Although John Wick: Chapter 5 is not to be found in the near future but the franchise is getting new life with spin-offs, prequels, and new series. So, the followers of the hitman can be happy which is a fact that the offer of a new TV series and an anime prequel will be out there “Ballerina” fans will have the chance to see in 2025.
With the next John Wick movie on hold, the body of the world of assassins has been developed more, which keeps the fanbase intrigued with new stories from The Continental.
