If at any time you have answered the phone only to hear a healthcare message that you neither solicited nor wanted, there is a good chance that you are entitled to money; and you have to be very quick because the deadline for the claim is fast approaching. As of April 14, 2025, and the UnitedHealthcare will pay $3.49 million to the victims of robocalls. This is courtesy of a class-action lawsuit settlement deal that is already operational. And the good news is that you don’t have to provide a single proof of whatever is being said to claim.
As part of the terms of settlement, any American who got such calls without any request in the time range from October 12, 2019, to February 10, 2025, should immediately submit a claim online and they will receive $50 or $125. The last date by when you can apply for the same is April 25, 2025.
What Were the Issues of the Lawsuit?
The accusations against UnitedHealthcare refer to the law, specifically the Telephone Consumer Protection Law (TCPA), thus disapproving any call made by an artificial or pre-recoded voice. The calls were made by a unit called Optum HouseCalls in the company that was in the process of planning to schedule in-home healthcare visits. Nevertheless, a significant number of the call receivers were neither the company’s clients nor members.
The lawsuit stated that those calls were what made people nearly go mad and were in addition, they were sent to people who were neither the recipients of the company nor had agreed to their sending. The recorded voice is said to have provided false contact information and no opt-out option was given to the recipients, so it is also a violation of TCPA rules.
UnitedHealthcare does not accept the fact that they are guilty of anything. Nevertheless, the company has signed an agreement with the court to pay a sum of money to the petitioner to terminate the dispute and prevent any further lawsuits.
Who Is Qualified?
You can get monetary compensation for the following reasons:
- You were the receiver of a phone call from UnitedHealthcare or its subcontractors
- The call happened anytime between 12th October 2019 and 10th February 2025
- The call was regarding Optum HouseCalls, or had something to do with scheduling wellness visits
Even if you didn’t respond to the call or no longer had the same phone number, you can still file. You won’t have to upload a receipt or a phone record. Just be honest – all claims are submitted under perjury; filing a false claim could get you into trouble with the law.
How Much Money Can You Get Back?
Although the amounts may slightly vary depending on the total number of valid applicants, the figure of the expected payout is in the range of $50 to $125 each. If the number of claimants is less, the payout money for each will be more. However, if many people file, the amount may be more towards the lower end.
It is worth noting that the whole case’s settlement fund will remain at $3.49 million and only after deducting the administrative costs and the attorney fees, the money will be distributed to the class.
Submit a Claim
If the date on your claim form is later than April 25, 2025, it will not be accepted no matter what. It is a fast process only taking some minutes of your time.
Understanding the process:
- Go to the official settlement website
- Click on the “Submit a Claim” button
- Insert your contact data and prove that you got the robocall
- Send and look for the confirmation
The claims review and approval process will send you an email or mail notification once that is complete. The final court hearing for the approval is tentatively scheduled for July 10, 2025. If the settlement is approved, payments will be released shortly thereafter.
Why It Is Important to Take Action Now
This is a one-time opportunity. If the time limit goes by there will be no way to get your money. Mass tort settlements like this one usually are not on the TV or the Internet, so there is a higher probability that you will get a bigger payment if only a few people apply.
Moreover, it is one of the easiest litigations of 2021 with no demand of documents.
If you’ve ever been a victim of a weird health robocall within the last five years, specially for a home wellness check, claim the call now and earn some extra money.
Act fast. Go ahead and do it now by April 25th, the deadline to claim, and let your voice matter— especially when you haven’t been the one receiving the call at first.
