It all comes down to a small—but important—calendar rule. Whenever a regular Social Security or SSI payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment is made earlier—typically on the last business day before that date.
In August 2025, the 3rd falls on a Sunday. And that small detail triggers a bigger shift: anyone who usually gets paid on the 3rd will now get their payment two days early, on Friday, August 1.
This also affects those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is normally paid on the 1st of the month. But this time, their payday aligns with others.
