Many fans, expecting the show to end soon, were still surprised by the news.
Through his statements, show runner Chris Sheridan made it clear that the series was always meant to end with Season 4, thus releasing the writers to find the solutions to the cancellation of their story lines.

“I think it has the most fitting ending we could come up with,” Sheridan voiced. “It brings everything we prepared and the story remains intact.”

It is rumored that the last three episodes will not only bring the characters’ stories to an end but will also disclose:

- The resolution of the mantid alien threat, which has been building all season.
- Several crucial secrets about the residents of Patience, Colorado.
Sheridan mentioned that the conclusion is going to be a mix of comedy, heart, and mystery—just like the rest of the series’ episodes.
The Bigger Picture
Indeed, TV shows get canceled quite frequently, but the unique aspect of Resident Alien’s fate is in the fact that the producers were able to anticipate the eventuality.
The resultant control allowed them a certain sense of closure, a privilege rarely enjoyed by any show.
The release of the first season not only makes Resident Alien at the same level as Breaking Bad or The Good Place but also treats it with the same respect (like the latter shows that terminated their stories in their own way).
