The popular animator Genndy Tartakovsky is taking a big step with his first R-rated adult animated movie, Fixed, which is coming out this summer. The movie is scheduled for launch on Netflix on August 13, 2025, and indeed, it has been a programmable hit already. It has such features as hand-drawn appearance, vulgar humor, and the nonstandard way the film has been brought to the audience.
It was in actuality Warner Bros. Discovery who first handled the Fixed project but could not complete it during the studio’s reorganization and a severe crackdown on expenditures in 2024 I was opened up. In the end, the project was undertaken by Sony Pictures Animation; a little later, the studio was able to distribute via Netflix the global stream of it after all the while it was put on hold.
Original Plot for an Unprecedented Animated Feature
The film occurs in a world of dogs who have their own art of communication, music and then kemicals, and market regulations, called Barkovia. The plot focuses on the series of power struggles that result from the outbreak of the Markonia – Variety reported. Bull, who will go through self-love level 2, has murdered several prisoners, escaped, and scheduled for extinction at a low time. After knowing that he is about to be neutered while having his sleep, he ends up being ever more courageous, possibly resulting in an increase of his self-esteem.
The movie is completely based on the classic plot of a guy’s last night out on the town but with the twist being that it’s all from a talking dog’s point of view.
Canine Mayhem and Mayhem on the Mic
The film has a really good voice-over cast:
- Adam Devine played Bull’s role
- Kathryn Hahn gave her voice to character Honey
- Idris Elba became Rocco the tough boxer
- Fred Armisen represented the voice of Fetch a dachshund who is just obsessed with social media
- Bobby Moynihan contributed his voice to Lucky – a beagle that is uptight
Also involved in the cast will be Beck Bennett, Michelle Buteau and River Gallo.
Tartakovsky co-wrote the script alongside The Simpsons writer Jon Vitti and also teamed up with his long-time collaborator, Michelle Murdocca, to create the film.
Hand-Drawn Animation in a CGI World
Fixed is different from the majority of today’s animated films in that it is hand-drawn instead of being computer-generated— a signature 2D style that Tartakovsky has kept since the very beginning. Is this correct? He mentions that the look is “cartoony and exaggerated,” which is used to represent the comic and absurd nature of the film.
The animation’s full of life, quick movement, and high energy, and yet it was still particularly chosen to be a stark contrast to Tartakovsky’s previous hit, Primal, with its darker tone.
From Shelved to Streaming
The movie was initially shelved off due to Warner Bros. Discovery’s vast project cuts in 2024. The film was almost completely done when the project was axed indefinitely. Later, Sony Pictures got back the rights and signed a deal with Netflix to bring the film to the streamers’ attention.
Fixed is far more to Tartakovsky than just a new movie as it is a rare chance of dealing with adult comedy through old-style animation.
What’s Next for Genndy Tartakovsky?
Tartakovsky is still working on a new Netflix series that is exclusive and untitled for the time being, although no announcements have been made so far. At the same time, the fans of Primal will be pleased as the third season will reach them by the end of 2025.
This movie is another example of how Tartakovsky keeps challenging the limits of animation — not only at the visual but also at the thematic level. This new for U.S. audiences adult animated feature-length comedy is an instant classic that is certainly on par with the best of its genre, films such as Sausage Party or BoJack Horseman.
