The Yellowstone series has recently been extended with a brand new prequel series named “1944”, after the massive success of “1883” and “1923”. The announcement has provoked great enthusiasm among the fans of the Dutton family saga. Even though the exact release date is still a mystery, the fans are already hyped to see the production move forward.
“1944” was officially greenlit earlier this year and is a brainchild of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, who also wrote all other chapters of the Dutton family. Although there are no specific details on the show, it makes a promise of explaining the 2nd World War’s effects on the Yellowstone ranch and the people who were living there.
The show is taking place in wartime America
“1944” is going to depict one of the most energy-consuming eras in American history – World War II. War’s aftermath was felt all over that country, including rural Montana where the Dutton clan has the famous ranch.
As a high number of young men were packed up to the military and sent to overseas duty, these families were at the same time made to ensure the daily operation of their farms and business. The series will without any doubt let the viewers understand how the Duttons went through the different facts and feelings. People may realize the farm would have to struggle with not enough staff for a period of time, the change of use of the land, and deep sorrow effects.
Connection With the Earlier Yellowstone Series
Eventhough we do not have an official cast list yet, fans are already putting two and two together about some characters in “1923” and probable future cast in “1944.”
The culmination of “1923” saw the character Spencer Dutton in grief of losing his wife who died as a result of complications of frostbite. They had just had a child. This child can be the central figure of the “1944” plot.
According to an online source of the description of the new baby, fans think it would later on be this man depicted by Kevin Costner in the earlier version of Yellowstone. The series is famous for carrying its storylines over the years, thus a direct connection should be the case.
When Will It Be Released?
As of April 2025, there is no release date provided for “1944”. Yet as per Paramount’s announcement, the second and last season of “1923” will be over by the 13th of April 2025. So “1944” may start preparations for the shooting to be executed around 2025-26.
Considering the high quality of the earlier Yellowstone seasons it may very well be the case that “1944” will not air till late 2026 or early 2027. However, the talk has been strong and interest is only increasing.
Other Yellowstone Spin-offs in the Pipeline
“1944” is not the sole new project related to the Yellowstone world. The person who created Taylor Sheridan is in the process of preparing a number of spin-offs. One of these is “6666”, which will be devoted to the historical Four Sixes Ranch in Texas.
“The Madison” featuring Michelle Pfeiffer is another project known to be on the upswing. The series is about a family from New York, which is moving to Montana, and the show will present another angle of life in the region.
These spin-offs put forth the fact that Paramount and Sheridan are not only maintaining the Yellowstone brand, but also expanding it far beyond the limits of just one series.
Why Fans Should Keep an Eye Out?
“1944” has the power to bring an exciting family saga, which will give more clarity about American history, the characters and the plots that made Yellowstone unique. The setting of World War II will provide new narratives and the Dutton family’s reaction to a significant American history episode.
Early on, when a cast is cast or the arrival of an official trailer, the fans are just allowed to guess. Deciding on what has been very good previously, they are likely to be correct, and in this case, “1944” is considered to be the best series waiting to be broadcasted on a particular channel.
