I Did a 6 Minute Core Workout Every Day for a Week — Here’s What Happened
by Anusree in Health & Wellness, Fitness on February 12, 2025You don’t have to skip rest days or put unnecessary strain on your body to build a powerful core.
When I heard about this 6-minute core workout challenge, I was eager to test if a short, concise workout would deliver results without taking a toll on my schedule.
I set a goal to complete a 6-minute core workout for an entire week, curious to see if I could maintain my physical appearance without investing much time.
Here’s what I learned when I put my core to the test.
Why a 6-Minute Core Workout?
Spending a minute and a half crunching non-stop would not only leave someone sore but also exhausted.
This is the reason why a short daily core workout intrigued me.
Having a strong core is vital for:
- Maintaining a stable posture
- Achieving proper balance
- Improving functional fitness
These were activities I wanted to perform pain-free.
Considering my other existing commitments, six minutes seemed ideal and easily maintainable.
This challenge was also inspired by Sandy Sklar’s 6-minute core routine, a simple yet effective set of movements that engages the entire core.
Just like all other workouts, this one also includes three exercises, which are repeatable for four rounds with minimal rest during breaks.
The Core Workout Routine That Lasts 6 Minutes
Every session consisted of these moves:
- Reverse Crunch to Extended Leg Hip Raise – 30 seconds
- Ankle Taps – 30 seconds
- Low Plank with Alternating Leg Raise – 30 seconds
- Repeat the cycle 4 times
The rectus abdominis (six-pack muscles), obliques, and deep core stabilizers are just some of the muscles this routine works on at the same time.
Day 1: A Surprisingly Tingling Burn
Feeling confident as I walked into the workout was not a surprise.
After all, there were only six minutes on the clock.
How hard could it really be?
- The reverse crunches lit my lower abs on fire.
- The ankle taps woke my obliques.
- The low plank with alternating leg raises tested my core stability to its limits.
I began to feel the burn during my third round.
While the exercises were quick, the rounds within them made them surprisingly difficult.
Day 3: Motivated, But Sore
Waking up sore means this workout was accomplishing something, clearly.
The switch in intensity came from long workout repetitions rather than sessions, and the core muscles were definitely engaged in focus.
It was impressive to witness my improved posture throughout the day, as slumping at the desk is all too common.
During these workouts, I also made a point to engage my core, which is not something I normally do.
Day 5: Enhanced Endurance and Control
I could feel my core strength improving on the fifth day of this exercise.
The movements that seemed challenging were now smoothening out.
As time progressed, my form was improving, and I was also learning how to engage my muscles more effectively.
One major takeaway?
Consistency is key.
Even though it was just six minutes a day, it was the daily effort that made the difference.
Day 7: The End Results
It took me a week to complete this session, and while I did not achieve six-pack abs, which was the goal, I was able to see some benefits, which were:
- Stronger Core Engagement – My core was active during various day-to-day tasks.
- Better Posture – I noticed that I was able to sit and stand without slouching, which is a plus.
- Increased Endurance – Over time, the exercises were easier to do.
- Tighter Midsection – This was not significantly noticeable, but I could sense some tightening of the midsection.
Final Thoughts: Is a 6-Minute Core Workout Worth It?
Yes!
The entire exercise confirmed my belief that core strength can easily be improved with simple guided exercises.
For anyone in search of a simple routine that can be done with a busy schedule consisting of no equipment, this is a recommendation.
Although more prolonged exercise sessions are important for significant strength development, performing this short daily routine is an excellent way to build discipline and enhance core endurance.
Will You Maintain It?
Definitely!
This six-minute investment daily for significant results is not a problem at all.
I intend to keep using this core workout routine in tandem with other strength and cardio training throughout the week.
Would you like to give it a go yourself?
All you have to do is spare six minutes a day for the routine, and you will see the results for yourself.
You’ll be amazed how a few minutes of core workouts can change things!
